2017 Michigan Area Annual Conference
A journey to joyful abundance
Members of the Detroit and West Michigan Annual Conferences will gather for the 2017 Michigan Area Annual Conference at the Grand Traverse conference center, June 1-4.
“Gather UP!” will bring together these two annual conferences in Northern Michigan for a time of worship, fellowship and the continued work of creating a new annual conference. Gather UP!, the theme for the week, is based on the miracle story of Jesus feeding the 5000 (Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-15) and takes us on a discipleship journey from scarcity to joyful abundance.
It will be a jam-packed few days. We’ll worship together, hear from keynote speaker Rev. Susan Beaumont, welcome Bishop David, and act on legislation. We’ll celebrate new clergy and deacons and hear more about the plans for bringing the two conferences together.
Set against the beauty of northern Michigan, Annual Conference attendees in 2017 will enjoy a relaxed setting to connect with United Methodists from across the state. Choose from a variety of housing options and consider bringing your family to enjoy all the Grand Traverse conference center has to offer while you attend Annual Conference.
Getting there and getting around
AC2017 will involve less walking than last year. Most conference activities will take place in and around the Governors’ Hall. Events planned at other locations may offer transportation. This year we are also offering chartered chauffeured coach service to the conference center from multiple cities in Michigan.
Legislation submission dates are now passed and soon you will be able to get the materials you will need to be prepared for business sessions of the Detroit and West Michigan conferences. Key documents will be posted April 1st. Be sure to check back to read, download and/or print the materials you need to be a part of the action.
